Post KARZZZZ, Shweta Kumar moves on!

KARZZZZ released a fortnight back and its debutant leading lady Shweta Kumar has moved on. She is now concentrating on her second outing which would be her dad Indra Kumar's next venture. 'My father was supposed to be giving me a break under his banner around a year back. This was a film which he wanted to direct. He got involved with DHAMAAL in the interim while I started grooming myself with acting and dancing classes', says Shweta who has received mixed response from the critics and audience alike post the release of KARZZZZ. Why did she opt for KARZZZZ in that case? After all working with her dad would have been a much comforting experience? 'Well, he would have taken some time for scripting and it seemed like a little longer process than I would have wanted to wait. By that time KARZZZZ happened and according to everyone around me, this was just the perfect launch for a newcomer. After all everything that Himesh touched turned into gold and KARZZZZ was not supposed to be any different', smiles Shweta. So what happens from here on? 'Film with my father was overdue and that would be my next project. However, the film is not yet titled and finishing touches are being given to the script. At least this film is in hand right now though I would look forward to film makers noticing me and offering me newer projects with KARZZZZ being released', signs off Shweta.

Sonu Sood heads to Langkawi

Adventure enthusiasts and sports freaks across the world crave the heady thrill of sports and Langkawi in Malaysia is one destination offering a wide plethora of adventure and water sports. Being an adventure enthusiast himself, Sonu Sood decided to visit the island and partake in some deep sea diving. On his return, he mentioned, "I have always been passionate about sports and this time round I decided to head to Langkawi as it is very well–known for its water–sports. On landing there, I immediately headed to the promising beaches and bays of Langkawi and strapped on my safety belts to take an awesome adventure of my life. It was really amazing to go deep sea diving as it surely revealed the many mysteries of the underwater world. The colours that one gets to see deep below the surface of the water are just so astounding." Sonu Sood will be seen as a lead in Rajshri Productions release this week EK VIVAAH AISA BHI along with Eesha Koppikhar.

Sameera Reddy to play a dalit woman

Amongst a host of new entrants in and around the year 2000, one name that cannot be missed out is that of the hot dusky beauty, Sameera Reddy. More famous for her oomph effect in action packed thrillers, Sameera Reddy (pleasantly) surprised even her staunchest fans in Abbas Mustan's super–hit RACE. Yes, we are talking about her dumb bimbette act which was appreciated even in the presence of stars like Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu. It now seems that Sameera wants to go one up on her RACE act and do some meaningful cinema which will display her full acting potential. If trade sources are to be believed Sameera is all set to act in a Nagesh Kukunoor project! And believe it or not, she plays a dalit woman, protesting against caste oppression. Well, we are quite sure that Sameera, like always, will do justice to this role as well.

I have no problems with bikini scenes!: Gul Panag

Talk is that you’ve got a hot and sexy new avatar. What’s motivated the change?
I was never ever the sari clad one. It’s important to not confuse what I play on screen with the real Gul. I have always been this way, it’s the way people look at me that’s changed.
There is a long love making scene between you and Sharman Joshi in Hello. Could you tell us about it?
The scene is in a car outside a night club and it is picturised just as in the script of the movie, not more or no less. It’s a very humourous scene.
Tell us about the character you play in this film...
I play an assertive, glamourous and very grey character called Priyanka. She’s faced with the eternal choice between love and practicality and chooses practicality like most modern urban young Indian women.
What are you currently working on?
I have completed work on straight with Vinay Pathak. And Rajat Kapoor’s rectangular love story with Purab, Ranvir and Neil. I have few days of work left on Hello Darling.
What in essence, would be your ideal role?
Playing Aamir khan’s character in Dil Chahta Hai — as a chick, of course.
People still link you with Sikandar Kher. Is it on or off?
I can’t take responsibility for what people like to think. And my personal life is personal, not something I’d like to use to be in the news.
How has your army background upbringing helped you vis a vis discipline in life?
I am what I am only because of my father’s career in the Indian army. It has instilled in me a sense of self discipline, commitment and a very strong value system. Above all, due to constantly being on the move, I am able to adjust to almost all situations.
What’s your take on skin show and the like in Bollywood today?
l People are free to do what they are comfortable doing. It’s totally a matter of choice. I have the highest respect for choices individuals make.
Would you do a bikini scene like Bo Derek?
Why not?
What are your other interests apart from acting?
Reading, trekking, mountain biking, rafting and other outdoor sports and paleontology.
Is there any message you’d like to give to your young fans out there?
Celebrate your individuality. Be unique and don’t blend in. -(TNN)

John Abraham makes it to ’sexiest in the world’ list!

Bollywood’s hottie, John Abraham, is the only Indian to make it to the ‘25 Sexiest Men’ of the world list compiled by E! News(one of the largest and most popular networks in Hollywood). Congratulations are in order even though the countdown to the Top 10 and then, the Sexiest Man in the World title, is some time away; only John is stuck in Philadelphia (“forever it looks like!”) shooting for Yashraj and you will have to wait until he returns. The rugged star stands shoulder-to-shoulder alongside other internationally acclaimed male sex symbols like David Beckham (naturally!), Bend it like Beckham coach Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Hollywood actor Johnny Depp and rugby footballer Dan Carter of New Zealand. The Hollywood network covered the globe in its search for “the sexiest, scorching, beach-bound hard-bodies; delicious hunks that can melt women with their voice and crush ‘em with their sizzling sex appeal”. John fell into the net that was cast across Asia. Interestingly, John’s own definition of sexy is Hollywood actor George Clooney. Why Clooney? “For the strange reason that, at 47, he has perfected the art of ageing beautifully,” replied John who is 36. “I think Clooney’s sex appeal lies in that. Indian actors don’t know how to carry age, we try to be young; look at Brad Pitt, Pierce Brosnan, they are sexy because they show their age and don’t try to hide it.” His own sexuality, John shyly admitted when asked what rocketed him from Bollywood to Hollywood in the sex stakes, was his individuality. “I don’t know how to be, look, and act like anybody else,” he admitted. But what was physically sexy about him since Hollywood doesn’t score brownie points for individuality? “Well, my smile,” John added reluctantly. “Six packs cannot substitute for honesty on the face.” (TNN)

Elizabeth Hurley spices up charity event in pink sari

Mumbai, Oct 24: Actress and model Elizabeth Hurley spiced up a Breast Cancer Awareness campaign in Mumbai by wearing a fuchsia-coloured embroidered sari. Liz, 43, looked like an Indian Princess, with son Damian in tow also getting into the spirit of things by wearing a traditional Indian kurta and gold turban. Damian, 6, from a brief relationship with Hollywood producer Steve Bing, attended the event alongside his millionaire stepfather Arun Nayar. Hurley, the face of Estee Lauder’s breast cancer campaign, was in Mumbai to illuminate the Taj Palace hotel in pink lights as a symbol of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Recently, Hurley has revealed that she will soon launch her farm produced low-fat products to provide women with healthier alternatives. A devoted supporter of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the former actress confessed that the organic food line might help reduce the risk of breast cancer. Only last week she was spotted flashing her knickers by accident to a crowd, who had gathered for a charity event.

US campaign enters final weekend

The two men seeking to become president of the United States have entered the final weekend of campaigning.
Democratic candidate Barack Obama still holds a poll lead, but one new survey suggests his lead over Republican John McCain is narrowing slightly.
Campaigning in Virginia, Mr McCain told voters "we can and will win". Later he will appear in Pennsylvania and on the TV comedy show Saturday Night Live.
In Nevada, Mr Obama told voters they had "three days to turn the page".
The Illinois senator, who will campaign in Colorado and bellwether state Missouri later, warned against the dangers of complacency and urged supporters to make sure they voted.
Mr Obama started the day by delivering the Democratic Party's weekly radio address, using it to talk about his economic plans, the war in Iraq and healthcare.
"If you give me your vote on Tuesday, we won't just win this election - together we will change this country and change the world," Mr Obama said.
He also sought to tie Mr McCain to the Bush administration, saying: "We can't afford four more years of the tired, old, trickle-down, on your own philosophy that got us into this mess."
.
Although most worldly-wise Republicans expect to lose and most Democrats expect to win, both sides will be short of breath over the next few hours
North America editor Justin Webb
The greatest political show on earth
President George W Bush, in his last weekly radio address before his successor is chosen, urged citizens to use their vote on 4 November.
"After months of spirited debate and vigorous campaigning, the time has come for Americans to make important decisions about our nation's future," he said.
Mr McCain, in his own radio address, warned that Mr Obama lacked the experience to handle the international threats facing the US.
'Wealth redistribution'
Both candidates are visiting states seen as crucial to their chances of winning Tuesday's election.
Speaking to supporters in Newport News, Virginia, Mr McCain attacked his rival over the economy and his tax plans.
Referring to a comment by Mr Obama that he would "spread the wealth around", the Arizona senator said: "He's running for redistributor-in-chief, I'm running for commander-in-chief."
ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL

There seems to be a two-pronged strategy: Sarah Palin energises the base, John McCain hangs out with his more centrist mates
Matthew Price's thoughts in full
After a lunchtime rally in Springfield, Virginia, Mr McCain will head to Perkasie, Pennsylvania, in the afternoon.
Analysts say Mr McCain needs to win in Pennsylvania - where he is behind in state polls - to have a chance.
His running mate, Sarah Palin, is campaigning in Florida, another battleground state which voted Republican in 2004 but where Mr Obama has whittled away Mr McCain's initial poll lead.
Mrs Palin told supporters in Polk City that Mr Obama's tax plans would take away money from small businesses and that his healthcare proposals would cost Americans more.
To cheers, she asked: "Florida, do you share our commitment and can we count on your vote on 4 November?"
Polls in Virginia, which has not backed a Democrat for president since 1964, show Mr Obama has pulled ahead of his rival there.
Mr Obama also has the edge over Mr McCain in Nevada and Colorado, both of which voted for George W Bush four years ago.
Missouri is seen as a vital state to win because of its record of backing the eventual winner in almost every election since 1904. Mr Obama leads in Missouri by a very narrow margin, polls show.
Mr Obama is extending his campaign advertising into traditionally Republican territory over the weekend, running advertisements in Arizona, his rival's home state, as well as Georgia and North Dakota.
Meanwhile, the Associated Press has reported that an aunt of his, Zeituni Onyango from Kenya who lives in Boston, is in the US illegally after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago.
The news agency also quotes Mr Obama as saying he did not know she was in the country illegally

Obama pushes for McCain territory

Mr Obama is to run ads in Arizona, his rival's home state, as well as Georgia and North Dakota, with only three days to go before the presidential election.
On Friday Mr Obama's campaign took him from the state of Iowa to Indiana.
Meanwhile, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger gave Mr McCain strong backing in the swing state of Ohio.
In a rousing speech, the former Hollywood film star said the Republican candidate was the real action hero.

Arnold Schwarzenegger attacks Obama's spending
"John McCain has served this country longer in a [prisoner of war] camp than his opponent has served in the United States Senate," said the star of The Terminator, Predator and Conan the Barbarian.
Halloween warning
Speaking to big crowds at a rally in Iowa and Indiana, Mr Obama warned Mr McCain's campaign was likely to escalate into a final crescendo of attacks on him.
Voters would see "more of the slash-and-burn, say-anything, do-anything politics that's calculated to divide and distract, to tear us apart, rather than bring us together", he said in Des Moines, Iowa

Joaquin Phoenix Retires To Pursue Music Career

Los Angeles, Oct 29: Joaquin Phoenix, who has twice been nominated for an Academy Award, said that his latest film, Two Lovers, would be his last. "I want to take this opportunity… also to give you the exclusive and just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor," he told the television programme Extra. He added: "I’m not doing films anymore." Phoenix, 34, said he would now focus his career on music. However he gave no further details. The brother of River Phoenix, who died of a drug overdose in 1993, Joaquin was nominated for an Oscar in 2006 for his portrayal of the singer Johnny Cash in the biopic Walk the Line. He was also nominated for his supporting role in Gladiator in 2000. Several Hollywood stars, including Juliette Lewis and Keanu Reeves, have parallel careers in both film and music. But few abandon acting altogether and fans of Phoenix will hope that he eventually makes a return to the big screen. Phoenix’s latest film, Two Lovers, is a romantic drama in which he stars with Gwyneth Paltrow. (telegraph)

Gilchrist says pissed off by Warne verbal abuses

Melbourne, Oct 24 (PTI): Besides questioning Sachin Tendulkar’s honesty in the ’Monkeygate" controversy, Adam Gilchrist says in his yet-to-be-released autobiography that he was pissed off by on-field verbal abuses by Shane Warne. In his autobiography ’True Colours’ to be released next week, Gilchrist has revealed the hurt of being labelled "a . . . licker" by Warne. According to ’Daily Telegraph’, Gilchrist claimed that the seeds of animosity were sown in a Sheffield Shield match in the late 1990s when Warne sledged the wicketkeeper. Warne, playing for Victoria, was backing his teammate Darren Berry to be Ian Healy’s successor as Test wicketkeeper, over Gilchrist, who was playing for Western Australia. "Warne and Darren Berry were absolutely giving it to me, verbally," Gilchrist writes in his autobiography. "They were saying ’A . . . -licker, you’ve only got where you are because you’re an a . . .-licker’. The nature of what they were saying was extremely hurtful. "Considering I’d played some cricket with Warne now for Australia, it was below the belt. At the time it almost killed me," he said in his autobiography. Warne and Gilchrist, one of most successful bowler-keeper partnerships in history, never really got along. Their frosty relationship was laid bare sprang when Warne was stripped of the vice-captaincy in 2000 and Gilchrist was given the position. "He has really pissed me off over the years with certain acts, and I’ve pissed him off too." On a conciliatory note, Gilchrist wrote, "But we played eight years of international cricket together. I think it underwrites everything else."
